About the Role

As an Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator, you will provide clinical expertise and mentoring to our care teams across the Illawarra region. You will lead infection prevention and control activities for a team of dedicated Aged Care Employees.

 

This position is a 3 day part-time fixed-term contract for 12 months. and supporting our IRT Kanahooka, William Beach Gardens, Marco Polo Unanaderra, IRT Tarrawanna, IRT Five Isalnds, Port Kembla, Marco Polo Woonona, IRT Woonona sites.

 

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting regular reviews of current practices and developing recommendations for improvement
  • Assessing, promoting, and contributing to the development of Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures, and outbreak management plans
  • Participating in compliance audits and reporting on findings
  • Contributing to Infection Prevention and Control training programs
  • Providing expert knowledge and guidance on infection prevention, control measures, and the identification and management of diseases/complications within our Aged Care Centres
  • Managing and responding to infection-related matters
  • Working with the Clinical Nurse Educator to promote high standards of education, competency, and orientation regarding infection control
  • Sharing Infection Prevention and Control information with residents and their families
  • Assisting with the coordination of vaccination programs for residents and employees
  • Coordinating outbreak management, including meetings, internal and external line listing, and post-outbreak debriefs

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • A registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, preferably with substantial post basic experience in Nursing 
  • Completed ICC training COVID-19 infection control online training modules, specifically: 
  1.         Infection Control Training – COVID 19 
  2.         Immunisation certificate 
  3.         All aged care modules 
  • Completed, or be enrolled in, a suitable IPC training course for completion as mandated
  • A sound understanding of the principles of infection prevention & control and outbreak management 
  • The ability to interpret Infection Control and Waste Management Standards and develop / implement related policies and procedures 
  • Sound problem solving, analytical, attention to detail and negotiation skills 
  • High level written (including report writing) and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skill
