About the Role

The Development Design Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the strategic definition, urban design and architectural aspects of property development projects from initial concept through to completion. This role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders, external architects and consultants to ensure the design vision is executed effectively, efficiently, and delivering high-quality outcomes that align with the overall development objectives.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design process for property development projects, from concept design to final construction documentation.
  • Develop and implement design strategies that align with project goals, client expectations, and budget requirements.
  • Drive innovation and design excellence in line with industry trends, sustainability goals, and market demands.
  • Liaise with architects, designers, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure the design is feasible and achievable.
  • Facilitate meetings and design reviews to ensure alignment with project mandate, project brief, project timelines and budget.
  • Ensure that all design phases are completed within agreed timeframes, budget constraints, and quality standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of design documents and ensure they are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the design development process and resolve issues related to design changes, approvals, and contractor specifications.
  • Conduct regular reviews of designs, construction documents, and site conditions to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Represent the development team in meetings with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders, ensuring the design vision is effectively communicated.
  • Manage client expectations, ensuring designs meet functional requirements while aligning with aesthetic and financial goals.
  • Provide regular updates on design status and potential risks to internal and other stakeholders.

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Tertiary and/or Postgraduate qualification in Project Management, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in project management, property development or architectural design management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound understanding of sustainability practices in design and construction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to inspire a design team.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on delivering successful projects.
  • Passion for design excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Results-driven, with a focus on cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
